A grassroots club with trained first-aid cover, appropriate equipment, a rehearsed emergency plan and a named person responsible for medical arrangements can score as highly as a professional club with an advanced clinical team.

Dr Adam Sayedi is a sports medicine doctor based in Gibraltar. While studying at Newcastle University, he worked as a ground safety steward at Newcastle United, an experience that shaped his understanding of how a fixture operates beyond the touchline. In Gibraltar, he has delivered pitch-side medical provision across the Gibraltar Football League, Rugby Europe fixtures, UEFA club and international competitions and FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures, and worked alongside UEFA delegates during compliance inspections.
